Hooray for Kael!

Today was a major breakthrough for Kael. He went in the potty! I know you all are so excited to hear this news. But I am so proud! I have to admit, I have been super lazy with him. With Ava I tried much harder and kind of pushed it on her. I have been so incredibly busy lately that I've put potty training Kael on the back burner. We haven't even discussed it or explained it to him or anything. Then today out of the blue he says, "Mommy I need to go potty." So I went and sat him on the potty and he actually went! I clapped my hands and was shouting, and I think I may have scared him. He was so happy he actually went, a little too happy in fact. Now he wants to sit on the toilet about every 15 seconds. Which I know I shouldn't discourage, but I do not like dropping what I'm doing that often to rush him to the bathroom for him not to even go. But he has gone three times today and I am so proud! So Kael, when you are 30 and reading this blog, just remember, I may not have blogged about when you were born, or when you got your first tooth, or anything like that, but I sure am proud you went pee pee in the big boy potty! I love you son!

One Fine Day

Well today was a big day for us around here. It was Ava's very first day of preschool! She'll be going Mondays and Thursdays and she has been talking about going to school for forever. When she woke up today and I told her she was actually going to school today I thought her little heart was going to burst. Her all ready to go:

We went and signed her up the other day and she thought she was staying. When I told her we couldn't stay she was devastated. I guess she thought she just needed her backpack because then we came home, she disappeared into her room for a bit and came out all ready to go.

Before church the other day I snapped some photos.

Also Kurtis came today! The kids are SO excited to see their uncle. He is so great, and plays with them constantly. He never gets tired of them, and he just loves to play with them, which makes him a superhero in their book. They woke up from their naps and didn't even want anything to do with me, just their uncle Kurtis. Well, Andre is doing his full time 2 weeks for the Army right now, and working his civilian job at night. John has a lacrosse tournament this Saturday and I am failing horribly in chemistry. Well, not really, but I've taken an awful lot of college classes, and I have never taken a harder class than this. It is wiping me out.

Recent Happenings

1. Yesterday I vacuumed up the nintendo wii cord and snapped it, and the vacuum belt. Bye bye vacuum and bye bye nintendo wii.

2. My friend Heidi had her baby girl. Congrats Heidi and family!

3. Kael has a persistent cough that will not go away, grows increasingly worse, and anytime I try to give him cough medicine, he cries so much he pukes it all up.

4. My brother Kurtis is coming to visit us on the 22nd and we are super excited!

5. My baby girl is very interested in her first girly activity. Dress up dolls! She has never been interested in anything girly at all, but we went to CVS to get some different cough medicine and she wanted this doll dress up book. It was only $1 so I got it for her and she loves it. It's frustrating though because they're cheap paper ones and every time the clothes don't stay on, she cries.

6. Kael has found his first real love in life: spiderman. Anything spiderman related is the coolest thing in the world. He wants anything to do with spidey and wants us to call him "super spiderman" on a consistent basis. He also is obsessed with the idea of being spiderman for Halloween. Well, since I pride myself in putting together our own costumes, I am really struggling with this one. I can't stand the cheap, pajama looking store bought ones, but I'm afraid it'll have to be that this year. I am not that talented.

8. I made my first berry galette and it turned out amazing. I would post a pic, but we ate it too quickly! It actually did look really close to this (except I used raspberries and blackberries):

7. The end.

Oh my crepes

I have been warned repeatedly how hard crepes would be to make. I have never made them before, and attempted them last night for dinner. I have to say, it was WAY easier than I would have thought. The only problem is that our stove top grates in our apartment are slanted and it is so frustrating! It's tricky to get things cooked evenly as everything slides to one end of every pan. So it took like 2 tries before I figured out how to manipulate it. I thought they were delicious though.

John had his first lacrosse practice this past Saturday. It was fun to go watch although the kids were not having so much fun. It was out at Trask (a middle school) field, and there was nothing there besides the bleachers. It's not exactly close to our house so we weren't sure whether we'd go or stay. Also we didn't want to just leave John on his first practice so we decided to stay. Yeah I don't think we'll do that ever again.

Our ward switched to 11am today and it felt very strange being at church so late. I brought the kids lunch that they ate in nursery, and they did pretty good. I snapped some photos right before church.

The other day I was getting some meat out of the freezer to de thaw for dinner. It was a london broil so imagine this big block of solid frozen meat. Well I don't know what happened but next thing I know I watched as the meat fell out of my hands and straight onto my foot. Now I've dropped plenty on my feet before, and I am constantly jamming my toes against the wall on accident. I guess there's a problem with my depth perception. Anyways, this was the worst pain! I could not believe how much it hurt. It's like the breath was knocked out of me and I had to hold on to the counter until it sort of passed. Honestly, I never get bruises. Ever. I don't know why, I'm not bragging, I just don't. Which kind of stinks because when I get injured, I have nothing to show for it. Well on my foot there is a nice purplish blue mark that darkens everyday. *sigh* poor me. And then to top it all off I was pushing Kael in the cart at the store and he was holding on to this heavy plastic toy guitar . He decided he lost interest and just dropped it. Guess where it landed? Right on my foot. I probably looked really silly just looking really grim, limping my way to the front with tears in my eyes. Poor Kael kept saying, "Sorry mommy! Sorry mommy!"

Andre and I saw "The Help" yesterday. It was the best movie I have seen in a long time. I didn't know it would be such a tear jerker but I was like a leaky faucet in that movie. It was so good though, way better than all this other crummy stuff that keeps coming out.

John started back to school, he starts drivers ed this next week, and he is just starting lacrosse. Ava will start one day a week preschool soon, and we will see how it goes. She got a new backpack in the mail, and she adores it. She wears it everywhere, even to bed. The other day I took a peek in there to see what she was hiding. I found: new batteries we had just bought and were looking for, shower curtain rings I have been looking for, one of Kael's special toys, a fruit by the foot (which she KNEW was off limits), and my engagement ring that I have been looking for for two weeks. What a little klepto.

Signing off, more to come soon.
