So do any of you know any of those moms that seem to have everything together? They arrive places on time, their kids are picture perfect, they blog about the cute little crafts their kids do, they make awesome homemade-totally-healthy-yet-delicious-meals. Their kids have strict bedtime routines, all their children know how to read by the age of 2, and they arrive everywhere with their hair styled, incredibly fashionable outfit with matching boots, and they run marathons on the side?
Yes, I have met plenty of women that *seem* to have it much more together than I do. I try not to compare, but it is hard isn't it? Honestly, my kids don't have a set bedtime. I like to see them in bed around 8 pm, but some nights it just doesn't happen. There are plenty of days when we do cereal for breakfast, pb & j for lunch, and cereal again for dinner. I wish I had these awesome solutions for misbehaving but sometimes everyone just has to sit on time out for a bit while I shut myself in my room. And here's the kicker: sometimes I do let my kids have a (oh no!) sugar-loaded, non kosher, totally fattening chocolate chip cookie. I rock out sweats and a t shirt on a daily basis and throw my hair in a pony tail. I could go on & on, but my whole point is that I came across this quote (which I have read before but it meant more to me now):
"I don’t want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautifully, tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with grass stains on my shoes from mowing Sister Schenk’s lawn. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbor’s children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my fingernails from helping to weed someone’s garden. I want to be there with children’s sticky kisses on my cheeks and the tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived." -Marjorie Hinckley
More Sis Hinckley quotes:
"Home is where you are loved the most and act the worst."
"How did a nice girl like me get into a mess like this?"
"There are some years in our lives that we would not want to live again. But even these years will pass away, and the lessons learned will be a future blessing."
"I decided that if I live to be 85 I'd stop counting calories and eat anything I want. And I do! I would make my mother's lemon pie but I've given up cooking too."

Kael's first day take 2
Kael's first day of school was supposed to be last week but we all got this lovely thing called the flu. So today was his first day! I thought he'd be more excited. He's so nonchalant about everything.

I didn't think he'd too much care when I came to pick him up; I actually thought he might not want me to take him home. He saw me though and got this huge smile on his face and ran over to me for me to pick him up. It definitely made my day. I guess he was pretty tired after all that playing.

I really missed them and I felt like a huge part of me was missing. But I am glad they got some time to be with friends, and it was nice being able to do some things at a much quicker pace! Even though I was tempted to just sit down and watch pride and prejudice and eat cheesecake (if we even had any), I'm glad I was able to cross some things off my never ending to do list.

Somewhere over the Rainbow
one of my favorite versions of that song is by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. I keep thinking I will get sick of it, but I don't. Look it up if you can!
Ava finally got the rest of her bedding! I'm not sure who was more excited- her or Andre. Ok, just kidding, Andre didn't really care, but I was pretty excited.

So much happens in between posts, that I forget everything I mean to blog about. One thing I wanted to write about was Ava's valentine date. We were very strict on who she could go out with for Valentine's day and what he could take her to go do. It was so cute to watch her get ready for her date. I helped her put on some of mommy's makeup and then we did her hair. She picked out her outfit, put on a bracelet and then had to wear lip gloss and perfume [had to by her standard- not mine]. I have to say that he was very much a gentleman and took her to the Olive Garden (probably her favorite place) and then to dairy queen for dessert. They had the best time! He even brought her a flower which she carried proudly around all night long.

The only thing that makes me sad is that she goes on and on about how she's going on another date soon and she's getting another flower (orange) and I try to explain to her that daddy won't be here for a while. Andre left this past Wednesday. He'll come home in 3 weeks for about 10 days but then he heads out for 13+ months. I say 13+ because we were told it would be at least 13, but they don't know how much longer than that.
It's funny I thought, "Oh, I can do this. I know it won't be easy, but I am so busy I can barley breathe, so this will go by quickly [or at least I hoped]." But then the day after Andre left Ava had school. We all get up and we're getting ready and then Kael starts throwing up. Kael does this quite a bit though, he gets so congested and he refuses to blow his nose instead he sniffs as hard as he can which only makes it worse. He didn't throw up any food and he had no fever and he was acting just fine so we got in the car to take Ava to school. Well we were literally pulling into the parking lot when he starts puking his guts out. It lasted for a while (I hope you're not eating while reading this) so I literally ran inside with Ava, didn't even say hi to her teachers, and then I ran back out. We came home and within minutes he was running a fever, and throwing up consistently.
I really didn't want to put him back in the car so I texted/called about 30 people and got either no response or everyone was busy. I was so desperate I even considered calling a cab service. Ok, no I would never really do that. Finally my friend Adrienne, whose son Micah goes to the same school called and said she could bring Ava home for me, and she already had an extra car seat in her car. She was my angel! So she pulls up to bring Ava home and they walk up and the first thing Ava said to me is, "Mom, you didn't come get me at school!" She was kind of upset about it, but I know she loved riding home with her friend Micah. And then on top of it all Adrienne brought us dinner! I couldn't believe how awesome it turned out to be! Some people in my life are just angels.
Kael started acting fine by the late afternoon and then today he has been fine, just really tired. He was so ornery I made him take a very early nap, and he is actually still asleep, knock on wood.
John's lacrosse season has officially started so he has practice every single day until 6:30, which means we don't get home till 7, and then Tues & Thurs nights we have to go straight from picking him up to appointments and church and then get home about 9ish. Kael has been begging to go to school for so long that I'm going to try and start him with just one day a week. I honestly think he would be fine going 7 days a week. He was never really as attached as Ava and he loves interaction. Well peeps, keep going strong, and I sincerely hope you all have very strong immune systems.
