What's in a name?

As the kids birthdays draw near, I find myself wondering where the time has gone. I can't believe my first little sweet bundle of joy will be 3! And our angel boy will be 2! I also find myself thinking back on when they first were laid in my arms, and I got to meet them for the first time. One of the most special things to Andre and me was being able to give them a name. I like names that have meaning (just a personal preference) and their names are so loaded with meaning that I want them to know to always treasure their names, and that someday, their name can be held for good or bad, whichever they choose. And it is something to be very proud of.

Ava Patricia

Ava is Hebrew for Life. Patricia is my g'mother's name. She is the most intelligent woman I know and she has been through many hardships, and still has the strongest testimony out of anyone I know. She is the mother in my life.

John Kael

Kael is Hebrew for mighty warrior. John is my grandfather, brother, uncle's name, and is Andres dad's name. They are all amazing men in their own respects and there are just too many good things I could say about them. I hope Kael will some day be able to know them all for himself, and what kind of men they are. He can look to them for guidance, and truly be a leader.

If you want, leave a comment on here or FB telling me your name (or your kids' names and their meaning). I'd love to know!

I almost forgot to add other names we considered for Ava were: Adelaide, Abigial, Lisel, and Emma. For Kael: Matthew, Noah, Oakley, and Wynter.

  1. so..Carter Finley was choosen because the love he his dad has for NC State football..he is named after the football stadium.

Kensington Jo is named after the town where the Washington DC temple is (Kensington, Maryland) where we were married and then Jo is my middle name as well as my mom's.

  2. Isaac has a very special name also. After my treatment, I was told I would never be able to conceive. I was only 19 and unmarried at the time but I was heartbroken. When Lee and I married, we knew we wanted children so I prayed and prayed and God blessed me with my Isaac. Just like in the Bible when Sara was unable to conceive, she prayed and prayed and God smiled upon her- he gave her Isaac.

  3. Amanda- I had heard that about your little boy. I think it's so cute and Kensington has a special name too (I love family names)!

Danielle- What a special story! Wow I am blown away. I would never have known that. Thank you both for sharing!

  4. Sakura Cumorah: Sakura is Japanese for Cherryblossom, in honor of the Japanese heritage from my grandmother. And Cumorah is for Chad's great-aunt who died as a small child.
Seth Vidinha: Seth means "appointed" and is named that because he came just after Chad's grandma died, like he was sent as a comfort for her loss. And Vidinha is my maiden name - it's a tradition in Chad's and my family to give the first-born son the mother's maiden name as his middle name.

  5. great idea steph and i love everyone's comments. wish my stories were as good

ryan carter- ryan came from someone telling us we should practice yelling a name to come in for dinner. My husband got stuck on hearing his little brother ryan getting in trouble after that. i just really liked carter and randy said no for a first name.

micah aaron- micah was the only name we still liked off ryan's old name list. picked from going through the bible. aaron is from moses' brother who was a great speaker when moses strugled. i like the brother aspect.

megan elaine- i wanted to name her emma and heard it meant complete. we think she might be our last. but she wasn't an emma so we named her after our moms who we both love. we were going to call her ellie but we let the boys vote and they called her megan.
