In the words of Anne Shirley today was really just a "Jonah day." It was sort of like sour candy. It started and I immediately just wanted to spit it out! I just have to write this, because not everyday is perfect. Sooooo far from it! To start with, Kael woke up screaming this morning. Well he always wakes up screaming. It really throws me through a loop because Ava (almost) always wakes up so happy! I don't get it. Whether he's down for a 3 hour nap, or sleeps 9 hours at night he just wakes up screaming no matter what, and it takes forever to calm him down. This morning it seemed to grate on my nerves a little more than usual. Then he woke Ava up by punching her in the face, and she has been the most ornery being in the world today. Ava is usually my fail safe. She is usually the happiest toddler, unless she's throwing a tantrum, or hungry, or tired, she's usually so good. Not so today. From the time she woke up till about 10 minutes ago she has been just crying and crying.
I still have a bit of a cold, but that's pretty much going away. I finally make it to the store this morning, and then look in my purse and realize that Andre has my card. Both of the kids fell asleep on the way home (all 3 minutes of it) which means that when I pulled up to our apartment I had to wake one of them up because I can't carry both of them up the stairs. Ava was the unlucky one because what can I say? She's a lot heavier. So she screamed and cried and pounded all the way up the steps. She refused to nap when we came back in though.
Did I mention my friend Penelope is in town visiting me? Only a few select friends can appreciate that statement. And then Kael has the biggest rash I have ever seen on him. I have given him 3 baths today to try and help out, let him walk around without a diaper and with some vaseline on. Then he went diahrrea all over the carpet! So then in the middle of cleaning that up, I get a phone call from a 910 number, which is the local area code here. I thought it would be the doctor, someone from church, or something like that. NOPE. Telemarketer. And of course they could NOT comprehend that I had to go. Kael had grabbed his doo doo from the floor and was smearing it all over his fingers. I hate to hang up on people but I totally did to that person. I said repeatedly that I had to go.
Right when both kids finally went down for a nap, I realized it was time to go pick up Andre. So I had to again wake them both up, and that was loads of fun. We finally made it to his work 20 minutes late! He came home with a headache and Ava cried all evening long. I made this dinner recipe that I found that got amazing reviews. It was a total bust! Truly disgusting.
We did a very short family home evening and that made me feel a little better. The kids are laying in my bed right now watching Little Einsteins. I know I should be brushing their teeth, helping them say prayers, and putting them to bed. You know what I'm doing instead? Venting to you and contemplating eating my second snickers bar for the day.
Some days are just like this. I may be in need of a punching bag.
